Born and bred in Christchurch I have been involved in sport and exercise all my life. Starting off with a heavy involvement in gymnastics as a wee fella it set me up well for rugby and athletics in later years.
Having such a passion and interest for sport it seemed logical to forge a career from it. I began my studies at the NZ Institute of Sport in Christchurch in 2000 and spent two years there only to find I was eager to learn more (and maybe party more as a student!), so I made the move to Dunedin and studied Physical Education at Otago University.
After spending four years at Otago and getting my BPhEd, I moved back to Christchurch in 2007 and started working with premier rugby teams as an athletic conditioning coach. Feeling the need to move on I made the move to the big smoke in Auckland at the end of ’07 and I’ve been here ever since.
Having worked at Genesis for over three years now I guess I’m kind of a veteran here. It has been and continues to be a great place to work and meet new people and I’m not planning on leaving any time soon!
If you’re wondering why you don’t see me around the gym as often as the other trainers it's because I’m also a musician. I am the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for an original band called Jimmy and the Goodbrew – check us out!!!www.facebook.com/jimmyandthegoodbrew
It’s fair to say music is my main passion but it’s great to have two things I really enjoy (music and personal training) to call a career.
My personal belief is that what you put into your training is what you get out of it. In other words, big efforts reward you with big results. Giving it your all and really working hard is what drives you through a session and lifetime exercise plans, which gives you the power to achieve your goals. I’ve had great success with my clients here at Genesis and it’s been great to see them reaching milestones and achieving things they never thought possible.
