Run Pro,
a running group aiming to provide a more social and enjoyable way to either improve your running ability or offer an alternative form of endurance training.
Running has never been more popular than it is today. The rationale for training for a marathon is much like that of the mountaineer: simply because it’s there. We are both experienced runners and have competed in a variety of races, including 10km sprint races, endurance races, half and full marathons and are looking to pass on some of our expertise!
Why Run It?
• Running is an excellent form of exercise for losing weight because it requires a great deal of energy. This energy requirement means the body burns a large number of calories while running.
• Running helps maintain and improve your general health. It raises HDL (or “good”) cholesterol, reduces the risk of blood clots, and encourages use of the 50 percent of your lungs that usually go unused.
• Improved cardiovascular health – running helps lower blood pressure and maintain artery elasticity, reducing the risk of strokes and heart attacks
• Running also helps slow the aging process. Those who run regularly are less likely to experience bone and muscle loss as they age at the same pace as those who do not run regularly or at all.
• Runners typically report being happier and feeling less stressed than their counterparts who do not run or exercise regularly.
• Improved coordination. Runners who regularly run on uneven surfaces quickly learn to maintain better control over their bodies to prevent tripping and stumbling while running.
Why run in a group?
• Some people prefer to run alone. They enjoy the quiet and solitude. Some people prefer to run alone so they can sort of their thoughts and do some brainstorming. But running in a group may actually get your creative juices flowing even more than running solo because you're able to bounce ideas off other people.
• Running with a group is a great way to develop a sense of community with your running. You can set goals and accomplish them together.
• Competitive advantage! When you're running with others who are encouraging you to run faster and harder, it's easier to take it to the next level.
What we offer…
We offer two “streams” of running. For those of you who have not run in a while or are looking to give it a go for the first time, we run a shorter, 3-5km run to get you involved, so that you too can enjoy the benefits of running. We also run a longer (5km+) loop for those of you looking to increase your distance, helping you to prepare for 10km races and beyond. By running as a team we look to provide additional motivation to squeeze out those extra kms and reach your target!
When does it all happen?
Every Monday evening, we meet outside the main gym reception at 5:50pm, aiming to leave for our run at 6:00pm – and in most cases we are back before 7:00pm. Everyone will leave together, with the longer group continuing on at a certain group split point, depending on the route.
If you have any questions, email us at info@genesisfitness.co.nz, or ask any of the friendly gym staff who will be sure to answer any of your queries. Feel free to register your interest at the front desk.
